History

The framework for Effective Learning for a Digital Age is a way of understanding how learners can be developed so that they can study and learn effectively in technology rich environments. It is unashamedly a developmental framework, with the elements presented in a sequential way, such that those supporting learner development and designing for learning can use it in a practical way. It is sometimes described as the ‘Have – Can – Do – Am’ framework.

The framework arises from the JISC Learner Experience of E-learning Programme which funded nine projects over 4 years to gather thick descriptions of learners use of technology. A Support and Synthesis team led by Oxford Brookes University synthesized and disseminated the outputs from these projects, including the creation of this framework.
